Chile’s Volcanic Eruptions

The continuing eruptions from the volcanic activity in Chile are causing increasing concern.

Not only are there problems on the ground with villages and towns affected along with animals and wildlife and many thousands inconvenienced by sometimes devastating amounts of ash and dust but the airlines have been unable to transport people because of the dangerous ash clouds that have polluted air ways and have spread as far west as Australia. Traffic congestion is however, less important than other issues gradually becoming realized by those observing at a distance.

It is likely that the strength of this eruption will trigger activity in some of the many other active volcanoes in the region. This will exacerbate the existent damage to crops, livestock and water supplies of the areas around and mainly affecting at present Chile and Argentina.

Pastures are being spoiled so that cattle grazing in the near future will be hazardous or made impossible for livestock. Fish are being poisoned in rivers polluted by the ash fall out. Crops have been ruined by ash and landscapes have been transformed to appear to be covered with snow in some areas. People will be suffering respiratory ailments until the conditions of the atmosphere improve.

Nature is demonstrating its power and might of a magnitude that makes us realise our relative insignificance. We seem to be forced to greater appreciation of the natural environment.  Hopefully in our hearts we will generate more gratitude for what we have taken for granted where we are still enjoying our usual good fortune. Our understanding of the destructive power of the elements at work is dramatically increased as we observe the following, startling photos that are fiercely beautiful but deadly to some life.
