Education

There are currently many ideas circulating as to how to improve all systems of education in the western world but principally that of equipping our infants and young people to cope with the huge changes that have taken place in society over recent decades. The advent of computer technology has changed societies and cultures all over the planet.

Dominance of this new science persuades many young people to take on a career in electronics. But what about other sciences and avenues of knowledge? We need to review our values in society and provide training in all areas of natural science without neglecting the key classical subjects and wisdom of our culture.

A sample of one such review suggests the need to incorporate the following in elementary education –

Individual responsibility and the need for self discipline

What is right and what is wrong must be presented as a clear foundation of cultural ethics. Ethics and moral codes presented with negative expressions seen as weakness and the positive virtues as strengths

Health rules learned from infancy & Hygiene of body is reinstated where it has become lax in implementation

Nutrition presented as a science and followed in practice

Health programmes include muscular and breathing exercise, relaxation practice and meditation incorporated in the regular curriculum

Encouragement of natural and unique talents and interests of each student

Philosophy presenting the greater life picture with offerings from the classical schools of thought as well as moderns

Arts- painting, music, dance and literature dedicated to the finest classical values of truth, beauty, and harmony

Social responsibility – courtesies towards others and contributing to the community as a whole

Cultural comparisons – between the major groups and countries

Spiritual teachings studied as core principles common to all religions

Love and respect for others

Love and respect for Nature and natural laws and sciences

Respect and obedience to civil law

Wrongs against Nature result in pain and disease
