GM Methods Endanger Organic Farming

It was once a simple matter as to the method of farming we employed. Influenced by long traditions and the more recent discoveries of agricultural science farmers could choose how to govern and manage their farm production. This included those who followed the directives of chemical industry and those who chose to cultivate organically. It was a matter of choice. It no longer is so.

Genetically modified crops cannot help but intrude upon their neighbours. The pollen from GM plants contaminates any nearby organic crops and threaten the destruction of the very elements upon which organic farming depends. This includes functions such as the improvement of the health of the soil and the build up of organic matter and natural fertilizers without the destruction of the ecological order through toxic chemicals. On the other hand there is no reported damage to GM crops by the pollen from healthy organic crops.

Those who have chosen to follow the organic philosophy allow that time must be given to build up health, whether it is in the earth, in animals, or in people. Organic farmers have usually spent decades to return the earth and its structure to a healthy condition as the basis for growing healthy food for consumers. It is to the patient organic farmers that we owe the availability of chemical free produce on our markets.

Some families have a member who is suffering allergies, asthma or various acute symptoms or even severe ones, that can be traced back to a need for improved nutrition, or the need to eliminate certain foods that cause negative reactions. It is quite feasible that many conditions we are now suffering in the community can be traced back to consumption of unnaturally produced, genetically engineered food.
