Human Brain Function – Replicated?
Specific attention has been given by IBM to work known as artificial intelligence research since 1956.
One hallmark was in 1997 when their computer ‘Deep Blue’ defeated the world chess champion Garry Kasparov.
This year IBM achieved some success with their super-computer known as ‘Watson’ that defeated two human contestants on a TV qiz show called ‘Jeopardy’.
A recent announcement from IBM that it has now produced prototypes of electronic chips that replicate human brain function has caused something of a stir.
For a long time science has tried to replicate things of Nature – to try to mimic the way a natural leaf or flower functions, for instance, and have failed. Now to consider that …‘the brain’s abilities for perception, action and cognition’ could be able to be copied to any extent is remarkable.
We will await further information about this achievement and to know how this science can aid and advance the evolution of human intelligence including the brains of those who conceived this current replication.
