Ice Life Discoveries

In our earthly Antarctic regions, beneath ancient glaciers, scientists have discovered an ecosystem that could help us understand the possibilities of life beneath the icy surfaces of other planets and bodies in space.

The life forms have survived millions of years in the extremely cold and saltly water locked away without any light or an known source of oxygen. This two year old discovery excited those who are interested to hear of further developments that could give encouragement to consider extraterrestrial life as a reality.

Antarctic researcher Professor John Priscu of Montana State University has published in the journal Science, a work on the subject. Amongst other interesting  information, he tells us of surprising abilities of these sub-ice life creatures to adapt and transform elements in their environment into the materials essential for their existence.

In the never ending quest for knowledge about life on our planet and beyond, there are some ongoing research avenues to interest us all.

Everything we learn about nature and natural life expands our respect and amazement at the power and diversity of Life that exists from here to ………… ?
