Starry Explosions
NASA has a satellite that was blitzed by a gamma-ray burst of what is believed to have been the largest star explosion seen in space. It was overwhelming in its power. It was sufficient to shut down the project’s data software.
The blast was thought caused by a collapse of a star prior to forming a black hole. The most confusing information to the layman is that astronomers believe this event to have occurred five billion years ago – way, way out in space.
Apart from being in awe of the magnitude of the event, almost as great is our admiration for man’s development of a science that can record it.
We have yet to hear official comments re the anticipated effect of this happening upon the rest of the cosmos.
