The Sun and Cosmic Perspectives
We love our Sun that god-like gives life and maintains life on our planet in co-operation with our Moon. It has always been the most potent symbol of life and power amongst people. Its size appears to us to remain constant but we know that in relation to our little earth it has great magnitude.
To know of our smallness and dependence gives us little concern. To know that what seems to us a giant sized, is in reality only a fraction of the size and light output of other suns in the cosmos probably has not concerned us greatly either. But to know that these invisible great emitters of power and light of immense proportions are now observed and identified by astronomers jolts us into adjusting our perspective.
We readily admit the reality of the limitless varieties of natural creation in the life we observe with all life forms – for instance, the uniqueness of each human face, leaf form, insect or microscopic creature. We observe all the wonders of natural life – in size, habit, adaptation and constructive purpose. Some of choose to explore the worlds revealed by the microscope. Others select the telescope. According to our natural interests we discover the miracles of nature in all spheres of life.
Many of us find it most comfortable to extend our awareness only to the limits of our personal world and circumstances.
But we all have to keep a perspective between the mundane affairs of our life, and the events in the environment as well as the greater worlds beyond our home planet. In all spheres nature demonstrates its limitless power, diversity, magnitude, use of sound and colour as we observe the Divine Artistry that has created and sustains life from the tiniest atom to the stars.
