Volcanic Activity

Volcanologist John Seach reports bring us worldwide news of the current dangerous volcanoes of our time. Knowing that the cause of massive destruction of the nineteenth century was through the Indonesian Krakatau so it is easy to understand why there is general concern about any signs of reawakening of this volcano’s rumblings and shakings that could signify another and perhaps immanent eruption in our time. To quote him -

“Krakatau (Krakatoa) Volcano lies in Sunda Strait between Sumatra and Java Islands. It belongs to Lampung Province. Krakatau Volcanic Complex consists of Rakata, Sertung, Panjang and Anak Krakatau Islands. Anak Krakatau is the currently active centre at the volcano and emerged from the sea in 1930.”

Eruptions at Krakatau  2010
On 29th October 2010 there were 136 eruptions at the volcano, compared to a recent average of 10 per day. Krakatau volcano was then raised to level 2 alert.

Eruptions of Krakatau  2011
In January, eruptions from Krakatau volcano, Indonesia forced the evacuation of tens of thousands of resident with seven districts being affected . These included  Kalianda, Ketapang, Sragi and Palas. Ash from Anak Krakatau continued to cover residential areas in parts of Banten province and South Lampung with visual ash emissions reaching 600 m into the atmosphere, drifting east. Ashfall affected the operation of seismometers on the volcano. Fisherman and tourists were advised to stay at least 2 km from the volcano.

There are certain ‘hot zones’ of the earth crust where the continental shelves make contact or overlap one another. There are weak spots in the crust and certain movements that respond to external influences of the climate, as well as the more powerful influences of the solar system family and beyond. There is also the certainty that although seeming puny in the face of the enormity of the universe, has been able to effectively influence life on our Earth planet – but only detrimentally, sad to say.

Many of us believe that we are living at a critical point in time regarding human civilization and present human conditions on our earth planet. Not only does it seem that the natural elements themselves are objecting in their cyclic habit over the aeons. It is no doubt that our great earth ice ages and changes are repetitive but also is added is the present chaos that is human responsibility. The global body of our planet appears to be summoning up energies in preparation for huge changes in the land masses and over which man has no control of any kind.

It would appear that our mother planet has had enough of our intrusive behaviour that has violated all manner of natural laws under which we have lived applying violent behaviour to the earth element itself in our desperate greed for oil, gold, and material substances but through the despoiling we have allowed in pollution of our waters, air and atmosphere, and through chemicals that have disrupted the natural and delicate balance of Nature on all levels including the resultant effects of our violent wars and weaponry.

In addition to the earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic activity, bushfires and flooding through unexpected and extreme weather conditions, our astronomers inform us that our neighbouring planets are experiencing greater upheavals that we have previously been aware. Volcanoes have been discovered on what we call ‘the dark side’ of our Moon NASA reports. Different and superior technical facilities allow observations not seen before in apparent changes to the form and activity of the other planets. It seems to be a very ‘happening’ place.

In this current year there have been serious threatened natural disasters related to volcanic activity and in some cases, bringing human and animal tragedy or fatalities including a degree if disruption of human air travel through the eruptions in Iceland, Chile, Indonesia, and Italy.

If that were all to concern us it would be enough but also there is the factor that any time asteroids may cross our path or worse, be attracted to crash into our home planet as has happened many times before. There are a couple that are of concern in the near future.

Considering all these hazards, worse still would appear to be the uncertainty of man’s ability to control his own chosen lifestyle, behaviour, constructive thoughts and feelings and actions that he believes are requirements for his happiness.

No matter what externals occur outside us, we remain guilty in our neglect of joy, peace, and loving kindness. If we could regenerate our natures and revitalize these emotions to increase our appreciation of nature, natural life, ourselves and fellow man perhaps we could bring about the only change that offers positive outcomes.

A concerted effort towards any correction that would assist is some way and allow rebuilding of our human world should be our goal as well as personal efforts that could individually contribute to help us realise our dreams of peace and happiness.
