What’s Wrong With Our World?
There are so many negative issues we recognize as associated with modern life in western countries. These matters and others also needing improvement, exist in the developing world. These issues make it impossible to rest in the sense that humanity is progressing in real terms and that we are safe.
Materialism is destroying people’s happiness and way of life that no longer establishes the natural criteria as the ideal. Greed for material goods is dominant in the modern world, not need. Finance is the all important issue and commercial success, not spiritual success, is our measure of a worthwhile existence. Unfortunately many countries where previous values were more soul satisfying, are now proving unfaithful to the old cultures and adopting the worst habits of ‘developed’ countries.
If we take time to list the reasons for our apparent weakness and collapse of values it may be that others share an awareness that requires our urgent action in addressing these important issues.
Focus on money has become an end in itself – no longer a means to a finer purpose.
Material greed cannot seem to be satiated.
Self-centred grasping at sensory pleasures…
Rejection of ethics, morals…
Distain for simple values…
Uniting the world in peace has given way to a questionable international union that is frail.
Faith and idealism is apparently waning – with nature’s miracles separated from the common lives that suffer extreme disease, chemical pollutants, surgery and emotional and mental pain from the broken relationships, abused children, and sexual expression far removed from love and kindness.
Our beautiful natural environments, forests and waterways are channels of poisons and wastes.
Inadequate social laws are attempting application but often sacrificing reason, justice and truth.
Pollution flourishes on all levels of our physical and subtle environment as bad behaviour, crime, violence and undiscipline behaviour has become permissive.
Classic values of beauty, peace, and harmony are becoming separated from the skills and artistic applications of the people.
Techniques that allow noise, ugliness and perversions to be distributed and grow to epidemic proportions are not banned, but favoured by consumers.
Self culture is a rare state. Classic culture has been neglected or rejected. There are no social standards to improve our social graces and courtesies. Only individuals maintain high principles.
The wonderful freedom we have enjoyed and are fortunate to maintain relatively well in our country has become distorted as licence to act destructively without excellence or refinement, continues.
Can we correct what is wrong with our world?
